What it is

🚨 Imagine your Bitbucket server is an all-you-can-eat buffet, and an attacker just found a way to sneak in their own dishes! ⚡ It's like allowing customers to bring their own food into a restaurant—if they can add whatever they want, they might just poison the whole meal! In this case, malicious HTTP requests are the unfriendly dinner guests bringing unwanted ingredients to your codebase. With just a malicious request, an attacker can execute arbitrary code, turning your trusted Bitbucket repository into a playground for mischief. This could lead to data breaches, stolen code, or worse—complete server takeover! Every piece of sensitive information could be at risk, and that's absolutely devastating.

Put simply

It's like allowing customers to bring their own food into a restaurant—if they can add whatever they want, they might just poison the whole meal! In this case, malicious HTTP requests are the unfriendly dinner guests bringing unwanted ingredients to your codebase. Multiple API endpoints in Atlassian Bitbucket Server and Data Center, prior to specified versions, fail to adequately secure against remote code execution via crafted HTTP requests, allowing unauthorized commands to be executed by anyone with read permissions.

What to do

With just a malicious request, an attacker can execute arbitrary code, turning your trusted Bitbucket repository into a playground for mischief. This could lead to data breaches, stolen code, or worse—complete server takeover! Every piece of sensitive information could be at risk, and that's absolutely devastating. Immediately upgrade to Bitbucket Server/Data Center version 7.6.17, or versions 7.17.10, 7.21.4, 8.0.3, 8.1.3, 8.2.2, or 8.3.1. Review your permissions to ensure only authorized users have access, and monitor your logs for any unusual activity. 🛡️ You've got this! By patching now, you’ll protect your repositories and keep the bad guys at bay! 🔒😊
